When I came across Ross Ching’s time-lapse photography I thought to myself, brilliant! I’ve done a few time-lapses (also known as time reductions) myself in the past and quickly realized creating a great time-lapse is an art form that requires technical knowledge, pre-visualization, and lots of patience. Ross Ching is a talented and ambitious graduate of San Diego State University with great vision and strong interests in film making, which spawned from skateboarding movies he started creating at age 14. Below are a couple of videos by Ross Ching utilizing time-lapse photography.  For more information about Ross Ching view the links at the bottom of this post!

In a digital age where “meeting people” is now all done through Facebook, Twitter, and blogs, it’s always nice to actually meet the person at the other end of the computer in person, face to face. I’ve been following Liz’s work for a while now (particularly her “Taken Root” series), and am a pretty regular reader of her blog. When the Jesusita fires broke out in Santa Barbara a couple weeks ago, I was surprised to see Liz tweeting about it. I knew she was located in the area, but I didn’t realize she was literally only a couple streets down from me! So we arranged to meet up for coffee and I can say it was a real pleasure. I was a bit surprised when she introduced herself because I guess I remembered her looking different from the photos I’ve seen of her on some of her online profiles. But she’s really down to earth, and we just talked a bit about photography; the mystery of how things operate in this business, developing projects, competitions, getting grants, being addicted to all of these online social networking sites, online personas that seem to take on a life of their own, Richard Prince, Amy Stein…it was a fun time. Santa Barbara may be a small town and it’s easy for it to feel a bit sheltered or routine, but it’s these kind of chance meetings that make it pleasant to have it be such a small world sometimes.

‘What Buyers Want 2009′ identifies and explains what professionals in the real world are looking for in a photographer’s website.  Don’t cater your site to other photographers – build them with your actual clients in mind! In a survey completed by PhotoShelter of 550 professionals consisting of art/creative directors, web designers, PR and marketing heads, and agents, they state their likes and dislikes, what’s acceptable, and what they simply can’t stand.  The rest of the video focuses on tips/advice to market your website(s), best site practices, advice from clients, evaluation criteria, and how PhotoShelter can help.
